🧩 Motif index

⚠️ These are rumors, not facts.

Each motif is the shape of a story as people tell it, not a claim that it's true: many of the claims filed here are false, some are true, and a motif is the same whether people tell the story or argue against it.

🚧 Work in progress. Our own index of the recurring shapes of today's political rumors and narratives, built as we go: the way Stith Thompson built his Motif-Index of Folk-Literature from the folktales he read, but from what people are saying now (on Folklore) and what fact-checkers examine (on Rumors). A small language model names each claim's shape as a reusable framing and files it under a matching motif or starts a new one; a person refines the entries by hand. 207 motifs from 330 claims so far, 70 seen more than once.

🧩 The motifs are a work in progress. Each motif is named and filed by a language model running on our own computer, not by a person. We're slowly checking, merging, renaming and grouping them by hand, so for now expect loose fits, near-duplicates and some odd names. A motif describes the shape of a story as people tell it, never whether it's true.
